About

Every Banaris textile is an exquisitely woven work of art. Embracing fair trade principles, I work with traditional textile artisans in India to design the most attractive pieces possible, built upon traditional Indian fibers and stylings, but with an eye for the contemporary.

In the summer of 2001 I left my home in Detroit, Michigan with little more than a one-way ticket to Europe. I had no plan but to travel, experience, and discover freely. Banaris Textiles was conceived nine months later, in the extraordinary atmosphere of Banaris, India, where I happened across the most incredible handwoven scarves. I bought what I could and filled my backpack, in hopes of furthering my travels. Beginning in the marketplaces of Athens, Greece, and continuing through Europe, I sold my final scarf three months later, while hiking across Scotland.

It's in the same spirit of freedom, adventure, and creativity that I continue to seek out, design, and bring to my customers an ever-widening collection of exquisitely crafted articles from abroad.
